Canada will welcome greater than 1 million new immigrants in the subsequent 3 years. This was revealed on 12 Mar 2020 in the Canadian government’s Immigration Levels Plan for 2020-2022.
Canada proceeds its approach to continuously increasing levels of immigration. This is anticipated to give time for stakeholders to appropriately plan to support a higher population. Canada welcomed 320,000 immigrants in the year 2018, and 341,000 newcomers in the year 2019, it is again aiming the same number of admissions of 341,000 newcomers in the year 2020.
It is striving to welcome further 351,000 immigrants in the year 2021, and another 361,000 immigrants in 2022. The plan allows Canada with the scope to welcome a maximum of 390,000 immigrants in the year 2022.
The most notable revelation from the notification is that the Canadian goal for 2022 since 12 Mar 2020 is the initial time such details have become publicly accessible.
In the year 2017, Canada reintroduced plans of multi-year levels after the initial attempt within 1982-1984 was interrupted by the recession. The return to multi-year immigration levels plan is intended to assist stakeholders like urban planners to determine what steps they require to take to strengthen the economy and immigrants' social integration.
Canada will proceed to admit the balance of its immigrants below the economic class, with 58% set to arrive by the likes of Express Entry programs, Quebec’s programs, Provincial Nominee Program, and different federal streams like Atlantic Immigration Pilot (A.I.P). Maximum growth will come from the economic class, as its aim is going to increase economic class immigration by approximately 10,000 newcomers each year.
Related with 2019, the government of Canada is raising its PNP admission goal by 20% in 2022. Canada is also driven to welcome more newcomers below various pilots. It is striving to welcome 5,200 immigrants below pilots such as the Rural & Northern Immigration Pilot and the Agri-Food Immigration Pilot. It may close up approximately doubling its intake below these pilots by the year 2022.
Quebec’s immigration levels are yet to be decided for 2021 and 2022, as the government of Canada waits to consult with Quebec Province in light of the significant reforms in the province is presently undertaking to Quebec’s immigration system.
In addition, 26% will be welcomed below the family class, while the outstanding 16% will be allowed on humanitarian grounds. There will be no increase in the family class. The government of Canada has fixed the same goal for family class immigration which is 91,000 immigrants over the following 3 years. There will be minimum growth for those accepted for compassionate and humanitarian purposes.
