During a meeting with Chinese officials in Beijing, Immigration Minister of Canada John McCallum, proposed to open five more visa application centers. The immigration minister zeroed down on the following five cities Nanjing, Wuhan, Jinan, Shenyang, and Chengdu.
According to a government official on condition of anonymity, “Canada needs to take advantage of a great economic opportunity to capture this market and the opening of more visa application centers throughout China would facilitate travelers seeking to come to Canada.”
The official further added that, “We want to facilitate the entry of people who can make some great contributions to Canada while they are here, and hopefully be able to retain them.”
McCallum was quoted saying that he wants to draw more overseas talent in the technology sector and utilize the economic potential of the international students. The Immigration Minister addressed the foreign students as “the cream of the crop”.
The plan to open more visa offices in China is proposed by the Liberal Government to promote economic growth and innovation in Canada.
