Canada To Hold Language Skills Tests For Immigrants
19 Apr 2012
Canada is very popular with students who want to pursue higher studies and has also been attracting several immigrants. Naturally, the Canada immigration authorities would prefer those migrating to Canada to know French or at least English. The language skill tests will be initiated from June and will apply for those migrating on low or semi-skilled jobs.
Based on research it has been observed that immigrants who had adequate language skill had better social mobility. After all, one must have good command of language in order to communicate well and to succeed in life.
Canadian immigration authorities feel several problems are encountered on account of allowing those not being well-versed with the local language and therefore they would not like to commit similar mistakes.
The view held is that several West European countries are facing problems with those people living in so- called ghetoes as they have been brought in by people who are not proficient in language and remain socially isolated.
Several people from various countries often migrate to Canada for better opportunities, and some of them come from non-English speaking countries. In fact, many of them also do not know French. They are not well conversant in both the languages, English as well as French. This hinders their socialization with the local community and also prevents them from advancing in their respective jobs.
