Canada's Budget Set To Introduce A Modern Agri-Food Pilot In 2019
02 Apr 2019
The announcement of the federal budget of Canada on Mar 19th unveiled plans to launch the latest immigration pathway for workers of agri-food. Even though Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada have still not released information about the pilot in the federal budget for the year 2019 holds funds for a program to support full-time workers in the Food and Agricultural sector have a pathway to PR status in Canada.
The motto is to assist the agri-food sector in meeting ambitious export targets of Canada and attracting and retaining required labor, and the federal government will start a 03-year immigration pilot to get in full-time, agricultural non-seasonal workers that will incorporate a pathway to PR.
The pilot seeks to bring non-seasonal international agricultural workers to the nation's agri-food industry. Rather than promoting repeated work permit renewals with temporary status for seasonal workers, the pilot would secure a path to permanent residence.
Officials expect that the pilot will re-energize the agricultural labor force in Canada, which has strived to address job openings in current years. A current report from the Agricultural Human Resource Council of Canada states that 26,400 agricultural positions remain vacant since 2014, a number forecasted to double by the year 2025.
The worker pilot of agri-food would be the 3rd of its kind newly launched as a pathway to economic immigration and accompanies a similar model to both of its previous: Northern and Rural Immigration Pilot and
Atlantic Immigration Pilot.
Atlantic Immigration Pilot
Established in 2017, assists the 04 Canadian Atlantic provinces: Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The A.I.P is employer-driven, and all candidates must secure a job offer from a nominated Atlantic employer to be eligible. Although slow to begin, the AIP has noticed recent victory and has been prolonged to continue over the next year.
Northern and Rural Immigration Pilot
Started on 24 Jan 2019, was motivated by the AIP and its victory. This pilot tries to bring and hold current immigrants to areas outside of the primary city centers. Northern and Rural communities must appeal to engage in the pilot. If a community is allowed, the program will then aim for newcomers who will surely benefit the community economy. Currently, the pilot is allowing appeals only from communities who wish to be involved.
As the government of Canada works to support skilled migration to Canada, and to assure lasting incorporation of
skilled workers into the economy of Canada, we can anticipate more routes to Canadian PR to open. The intention of allowing more than 1 million immigrants in the following three years signals the government’s plan to continue to be further innovative and effective in the processing of immigration in the future.
