Canadian Immigration Boosted Population Growth in Third Quarter of 2019

The biggest recorded surge in the Canadian population growth took place in the third quarter (Q3) of the year 2019.

On 1 October 2019, the Canadian population was measured at 37,797,496, Statistics Canada reports that there was an improvement of 208,234 from 1 July.

It was the initial time that the Canadian population has risen by higher than 200,000 in a specific quarter. It describes a quarterly population gain of 0.6%, which is the biggest growth that Statistics Canada has witnessed since the executing of the present demographic accounting system in 1971 July.

This increase was driven principally by newcomers and non-permanent residents like temporary workers.

An estimated 103,751 latest newcomers arrived in Canada during the third quarter of 2019, and 82,438 were non-permanent residents. Growth of this extent had never before been observed in a specific quarter, Statistics Canada states.

But both permanent and temporary global migrants estimated for 83.4% of the entire Canadian population increase in the third quarter of 2019. This increase was greatest in the province of British Columbia at an increase of 0.7%. The least population increase was observed in Newfoundland and Labrador at 0.1%.

The outstanding 16.6% of the increase was the outcome of natural growth or the difference within the number of births and the number of deaths.

The Canadian population is anticipated to proceed to grow as a consequence of massive immigration levels, while the actual increase is assumed to maintain a descending trend due to an aging population and also low rate of birth.

Inter-provincial Migration inthe Third Quarter

Alberta province had its most powerful inter-provincial migratory growth in 4 years at a supplementary of 2,285. This rebound occurs after various quarters of drops in the western-Canada province.

Ontario province proceeded to grow from inter-provincial migration, increased 2,959 in the third quarter of 2019.

Manitoba province and Saskatchewan province encountered their biggest quarterly inter-provincial migration declines since the late 1980s and beginning of the 1990s, respectively. Manitoba’s population dropped 3,370 to inter-provincial migration, meanwhile, Saskatchewan province dropped 3,477.

Quebec province where inter-provincial migration drops are generally witnessed only dropped 200 in the third quarter of 2019.
