Canadian Provinces Lobby For Increase In Provincial Nominee Quotas

29 Nov 2012

Immigration News

Canadian provinces are facing acute skills shortage and hence want to increase the Canadian Provincial Nominee quota allocated to their province.

Federal government of Canada allocates these quotas to address the labour shortages for skilled professionals.

  • Saskatchewan wants to increase its annual nominee quota from 4,000 to 6,000.
  • Ontario wants a raise of 4000. Currently it has nominee quota of 1,000. The increase would bring the number to 5,000
  • British Columbia wants nominee quota of 6,500, up from 3,500 this year.

Foreigners can benefit from the diverse range of options currently available for Canada Permanent Residency. Every PNP is different, interested visa applicants may find themselves more suitable for some Canadian provinces than others. The FSWC and Quebec Skilled Worker programs are also an option for getting a Permanent Residency.

Requirements for the FSCW (opening in 2013):

  • You should have minimum 1 year of full time work experience in last 10 years
  • Demonstrate at least an Adequate-Intermediate language proficiency in English or French (Canadian Language Benchmark: 7)
  • You need to score at least 67 points in the new points system (points are given for language, age, work experience, education and adaptability etc.)
  • You should have assessment of your foreign education credentials assessed, authenticated and given an equivalent value in Canada

Requirement for Quebec Skilled Worker (currently open and accepting applications):

  • Minimum score of 49 points from a 57-point grid;
  • Minimum high school degree is mandatory
  • Have a degree or diploma in one of 110 areas of training/fields of study

“Individuals who are committed to settling in a specific province should pay close attention to any changes being made in upcoming months,” said Attorney David Cohen. “However, they should also be aware of other popular options, such as the FSWC and Quebec Skilled Worker programs. The Quebec Skilled Worker program is currently accepting applications for Permanent Residency, while proactive applicants are already preparing their files in anticipation of the FSWC opening soon.”

Canadian provinces are doing everything to attract foreign professionals to their cities and towns. This is the right time for Canadian immigration aspirant to apply for a suitable visa.
