The Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) – the right wing party of the province has announced that it would reduce its migration level by 20 percent. The reduction will bring down the number of immigrants from 50,000 to 40,000 every year.
Leader François Legault, the leader of CAQ, announced his party’s new stand in Saint-Jérôme on Tuesday. He said, “Thousands of immigrants haven't mastered French and haven't entered the job market.”
He said, "We have to open our eyes. We have a real problem,"
Answering to a question, “Whether current immigration policies threaten Quebec identity?” he said that few immigrants living in the Quebec "don't adhere to a fundamental value, equality between men and women."
However, he feels that the majority of Quebec people believe in that quality.
He also said, "But we have to be careful, we have to ask questions, like the ones they're asking in Europe,"
Way back in April 2016, Quebec Immigration Minister Kathleen Weil, announced to maintain the immigrant’s threshold at 50,000 for the year 2017.
