Some of Ireland’s leading employers will gather in Dublin’s Convention Centre on Saturday to offer graduates up to 3,500 positions.
The Career Zoo is being organised by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation, among others.
Commenting on the initiative, Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said: “The Government’s plan for jobs and growth is focused on rebuilding an economy based on enterprise, exports and innovation.
“As this event shows, innovative Irish and international companies are now creating large numbers of jobs in the sectors which we have targeted, including ICT, life sciences, and financial services.
“Part of the challenge is to ensure that we develop the training mechanisms to ensure that we can fill the vacancies that are being created, and the Action Plan for Jobs 2013 will contain a number of measures targeted at this goal.”
The event is sponsored by IrishJobs.ie, Accenture, DIT, Skillnets, and the “IT’s Happening Here” initiative, which is run by Enterprise Ireland to attract candidates to Irish software firms.
The companies, from several industry sectors, want to meet potential candidates for over 3,500 professional and graduate jobs which are currently available. More than 9,000 people attended last year’s Career Zoo event in September and roughly the same number of visitors are anticipated for saturday’s event which is free of charge, the organisers said.
More than 100 Irish and international firms will be offering jobs and showcasing courses and upskilling opportunities at the one-day event. Experts will also offer advice on starting a business.
Other activities include a “Tech Box”, where attendees can learn more about the IT sector, career workshops, and a career clinic where jobseekers can go for advice and help.
Some of the employers who will be recruiting at the event include: Abbott, Accenture, Amazon, AOL, Aon, eBay, Ericsson, Johnson & Johnson, Openet, Paypal, Sentenial, SIG, State Street, Unum, and Workday.
“IT’s Happening Here” is an initiative set up by Enterprise Ireland in an effort to fill the estimated 1,500 vacancies in the information technology sector.
The sectors where full-time jobs will be available include IT, engineering, pharmaceutical, biomedical, finance and accounting, sales, multilingual roles, HR, marketing, management roles, and more.
DIT, Skillnets, UCD Smurfit School, Trinity School of Business, DCU Cloud Computing Centre, National College of Ireland, and Innopharma Labs will be among the institutions offering conversion courses and upskilling opportunities, as well as providing career guidance to candidates.
