Cayman Government Plans To Make Immigration Online

The Government of Cayman Islands is set to provide local businesses, non-Caymanian work permit holders and job-seekers an unprecedented access to immigration and employment related data.

The creation and execution of an online immigration and labor database will be available round the clock and is anticipated to be launched by the government on Monday.

Apparently, the online system would enable the immigration department to carry out a lot of things, which are not easy to do with the existing paper and record management system. For instance, the system would permit the authorized immigration officer or concerned immigration board considering a work permit application to check in real time who has applied for particular jobs, counting applicants of Caymanian as well and their qualifications for the post.

According to sources, if the system is implemented any business submitting an application for a work permit will be able to do so round the clock. It is expected that the new online system will allow applicants to pay fees online at any time. Besides immigration-related services, the site will function as a jobs database where employers will be able to post available positions and job seeker can post their resumes, which can be seen by businesses.

Experts opined that the online services at immigration will certainly lessen the waiting times and burden of cumbersome documents and forms. Certain functions of the system could enable doctors, who will perform health tests on applicants of work permit and local police who will carry out criminal checks to update their records directly to the applicants.

Reportedly, the new online system will be available to government bodies such as the Trade and Business Licensing Board and National Workforce Development Agency to help in their work. The deadline for the new online system is April 2015.
