Changes In Skilled Occupation List Expected From 1st July 2018

The Department of Jobs and Small Business is the authority to regularly review of the Short-term Skilled Occupation List, the Medium and the Long-term Strategic Skills List, and also the Regional Occupation List. The occupation lists serve as a background for migration of skilled persons. The recruitment happens in TSS, ENS and RSMS Visa Categories. Presently, the Department is finalising Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List for releasing on 1 June 2018.

The bulletin was released these occupations will be removed on 1 July 2018.

On 18^th April 2017, the PM and the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection promulgated reforms in the employer-sponsored permanent and temporary skilled visa categories. They had the aim to address the Governmental objective of supporting the migration programs to meet the economic and social priorities of Australia.

These reforms introduced the Short Term/Medium and Long Term Skilled Occupation List identifying the jobs which are available for employing the temporary as well as permanent skilled workers. Additionally there were some more changes, on 1^st July 2017, to the skilled migration occupation lists by the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection.

The Department of Employment is cooperating with the Department of Home Affairs and other departments also, to provide advice to the Government on updating the STSOL and MLTSSL.

There will be six monthly updates stressing on the following principles:

Process of Stakeholder consultation.
Vigorous labor market evidence and proper analysis.

Finally, these lists will be available to the public on 1^st July 2018.
