China To Issue Single Work Permit To Attract Foreign Workers

China has planned to modify its current skilled migration programs by combining two foreign work permits into a single visa program. Similar to what is given by most of the developed world countries.

Zhang Jianguo, head of State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs said, "The unification eliminates the replicated application hurdle and improves communication, aiming to better serve overseas talent coming to work in China,"

The current system allows prospective visa applicants to apply under any one of the following two streams – First one is the work permit license issued by Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security to foreigners; second one is the foreign expert work permit issued by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.

As per a news report by a state-run news daily, the tryout for this new program will begin initially in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin municipalities, Hebei, Anhui, Shandong, Guangdong, Sichuan provinces and the autonomous region of Ningxia Hui.

The preparation for the trial in selected areas will begin in October 2016, which includes staff training and promotion. The new single permit will be issued November 1 onwards.
