A Chinese investment firm’s subsidiary has announced that its pioneering UK research centre will be in Manchester.
Edward Healthcare, which specialises in health and social care for the elderly, will open The Edward Centre for Health Care Management Research at Manchester Science Park.
Peter Bullock, managing director at the firm, which is is owned by Yuanzhen UK Investments, highlighted that being based in the city provides a number of benefits. He explained that with such a strong pool of experts nearby it will open the door for invaluable collaboration, while there is also plenty of access to other, top-notch research facilities.
When the centre is up and running, TRUSTECH, the North West NHS Innovation Service, will provide advice and other research services after agreeing a 10-year contract for £1 million with Edward Healthcare.
Meanwhile, researchers at the centre will also receive help from the Manchester Integrating Medicine and Innovative Technology and the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre Health Technology Hub.
It is hoped that studies could pave the way for new anti-ageing products and technologies, as well as new care models that can be used in China.
Dr Richard Deed, from TRUSTECH, described it as a “great opportunity for the NHS” and private firms to work with China and share expertise in care for elderly people.
