Chris Bowen Is The New Minister For Immigration And Citizenship, Australia

16 Sep 2010

On Saturday 11 September, Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard revealed Chris Bowen as the new Minister for Immigration and Citizenship. He takes over the job from Chris Evans who has become the Minister for jobs, Skills and Workplace Relations.

Bowen will now take on the responsibilities involved with controlling Australian immigration, as well as promoting the country as a great choice for anyone who wants to study abroad or work overseas, particularly on a temporary Australian work visa as part of a working holiday.

Australia is looking forward to attract skilled migrants to work in Australia in shortage industries such as mining, in Western Australia which is a boom industry which is experiencing skills shortage.

Australia runs a points-based system for the granting of Australian work visas to foreigners, based on skills, work experience, age and education.
