The L1 Visas are the intra company transfer visas issued for employees who get transferred from their offices to US offices.
According to a media report, top Indian & American countries has asked for the involvement of US President Barack Obama on the unexpected delays on the US L1 Visas. They argued on the delays of the L1 visa which is having negative impact on the business and work. These firms in a letter to Obama claimed that US immigration authorities are going beyond the laws in rejecting the L1 visa applications.
According to the Computerworld, the companies told Obama that "Such delays or denials do not enhance compliance or enforcement and do nothing except disrupt carefully-laid business plans and create significant costs to the company and the American economy."
The letter was written to Obama by IT majors Wipro Technologies, Tata America International Corp, a subsidiary of Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant Technology Solutions and Accenture, eBay, EMC, General Electric, Hewlett-Packard Co, Intel, Microsoft, Texas Instruments and Boeing, Dow Chemical, Caterpillar and Chevron USA .
According to Bo Cooper, an immigration attorney at Berry Appleman and leiden, The US Chamber of Commerce has also signed the letter from 2005 to 2007, the denial rate for L1B petitions ranged from 6 – 7%, In the year 2008 it rose to 22%, and since then it has not sunk below that level. In 2011 it was 27%. The letter said that the US immigration authorities have adopted an "inconsistent and improperly narrowed definition" of specialized knowledge.
