Former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will be heading a high-profile bipartisan group comprising top Republicans and Democrats to find an agreed solution to the problem of illegal immigration in the country. A suave negotiator, Rice being roped in by President Barack Obama indicates a definite solution to the intractable issue of illegal immigration.
Condoleezza is setting up a group with former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, a Republican, and two Democrats, former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros.
The reservations of the Roman Catholic Church to the slipping in of same-sex couples along with the illegal immigrants was somewhat of a dampener, but Condoleezza as seasoned negotiator is expect to assuage the feelings of all the concerned. After all, she has held high positions in the Bush administration and is now a political science professor at Stanford University in California and a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution.
The formation of the Condoleezza group in addition to the bipartisan group that is already working on the issue comes as President Barack Obama and both houses of Congress tackle the illegal immigration problem. They have a twin-task on hand: How to toughen security along the U.S.-Mexico border and provide for permanent residency for as many as 11.5 million illegal immigrants.
