Copenhagen is making room for construction of an additional 2.5 million square feet of housing and three million square meters for business due to significant population growth.
Every day, 30 new citizens settle in the capital, and the new Copenhageners are mainly foreigners, newborns and young people from East Jutland. The population in Copenhagen will grow by 21 per cent over the next 15 years, writes the daily newspaper Politiken.
The numbers, processed by Politiken Research, show that almost 3,500 people left Jutland for Copenhagen in 2011, while only half as many moved the other way. Moreover, it is solely people aged 15-29, who moves to Copenhagen from the province.
Lord Mayor Frank Jensen says that Copenhagen is ready for the forecasted population boom – by, among other things, making room for the construction of an additional 2.5 million square meters of housing and three million square meters for business.
It is a great tribute to the city that so many are moving here, says the Lord Mayor to Politiken.
