European Environment Commission awarded Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark European Green Capital Award for 2014. Copenhagen was judged on 12 factors: climate change, green urban areas with sustainable land use, transport, air, nature and biodiversity, noise, waste, waste water treatment, water consumption, environment management, eco innovation & sustainable employment, and energy.
The ability to sustain economic development and the innovative ways to tackle social, environmental and economic concerns made Copenhagen a winner.
City has partnered with companies, organizations, universities and colleges to develop, nurture and sustain green growth. Government’s initiative by building well-maintained cycling infrastructure to prompt cycling is praiseworthy. As per reports 35% of people cycle their way to work and school. City aims to become carbon dioxide normal by 2050.
The award has proved that Copenhagen is the most pleasant place to live and work.
