U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is offering advice concerning the U.S. Department of Labor’s report to expand the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), solely Transitional Worker program (CW-1) for a five-year period, until 31 December 2019.
CNMI businesses can leverage the expansion to continue to employ CW-1 workers to fulfill the present as well as the future needs for employees of foreign origin.
USCIS offered status and grant extensions of new CW-1 status till 31 December 2014. It will again begin to approve CW-1 status in duration of maximum one year, if a petition that is not formally judged, is eligible and the petitioner requests for an entire year. No changes in the fees structure or process of application for this program are made. The form requirements of employers continue to be the same and they are encouraged to file applications as quickly as possible.
Minor children and spouses of CW-1 workers can acquire CW-2 derived status and the status is granted for the time period similar to that of the main petitioner.
Employers in CNMI can file applications for temporary consent to hire foreign workers who are not qualified for existing jobs under non-immigrant category as per Immigration and Nationality Act.
