Danish biotech companies are internationally recognised for their world-leading research results. Now the pioneering development centre BIOPRO has opened in Kalundborg with the aim to make biotech production in Denmark even more competitive.
BIOPRO is a liaison between leading biotech companies and universities in Denmark to find solutions to a number of the challenges biotech production is facing. With an initial two-year project span and a budget of DKK 40 million, the ambition is to increase production output, while cutting the current resource and energy consumption.
Jesper Break-Jacobsen, Director of BIOPRO, says:” The partners in BIOPRO are heavyweights within their fields, and the location provides access to full-scale testing at CP Kelco, DONG Energy, Novo Nordisk and Novozymes’ facilities. Linking research and production this close is unique, and we expect to attract foreign companies and researchers, who can help to develop the area further.”
BIOPRO is started by CP Kelco, DONG Energy, Technical University of Denmark, University of Copenhagen, Novo Nordisk and Novozymes. The project is funded by Region Zealand, the EU and the BIOPRO partners, and it is administered by the innovation and development company CAT.
