06 Jan 2015

Immigration News

In a major decision to make it simpler for universities and companies in Denmark to allure extremely skilled individuals from nations outside the EU/EEA, the Danish Government has passed a bill to make necessary amendments in the field of recruiting overseas individuals.

The new reforms came in operation on 1 January 2015. With the new reforms, the companies will be able to utilize a new Fast-Track scheme that enables licensed companies simpler and swifter access to recruit highly qualified workers from overseas, which in turn enhances conditions for researchers.

Simultaneously, the reforms are made to make sure that more skilled and talented employees and internationals graduates prefer to reside in Denmark. As a result, a new scheme has been designed that allows overseas student graduates with  Danish Master’s or PhD degree to apply for a new card entitled as establishment card, which acts as a residence permit and enables the students to set up themselves in Denmark.

Other major amendment is made to Denmark Green Card scheme. Hereafter, the main emphasis will be on the educational level of the applicant and the point system has been overhauled to match the Danish labor market demands. According to the latest amendments, in order to obtain Denmark green Card applicants should secure at least 100 in points based on the aspects such as educational level, adaptability and language skills, unlike the previous aspects. A special version of Green card scheme has also introduced for students, which enables internationals students who have completed their higher educational program in Denmark and willing to reside in Denmark to seek a job.

Moreover, the amendments assure to make sure that even overseas employees in Denmark are treated equally and their salaries and work conditions match up to Danish standards. The amendments boost and reinforce the control that Denmark companies have to recruit overseas nationals according to Denmark regulations.

Besides the aforesaid reforms, effective 1 April 2015, the residence permits under the latest Fast-track scheme will be issued and a transitional scheme has been structured for the extensions under the Green card scheme that were granted before 1 January 2015.
