Denmark Soon Implements New Reforms For Interns In The Green Sector

The Immigration and Integration minister has made reforms to the executive order about the work permits and residence for interns and volunteers. The reforms will be effective as of 1 Jun 2019, and they appeal solely to the green sector.
Details of the Amendments
Intern Age
Current rules: The intern age must be 18 years and above but not higher than 30 at the application time.
Latest rules from 1 Jun 2019: The intern age must be 18 years and above but not higher than 35 at the application time.
Qualification of Language
Current rules: The intern must hold a document of passed recognized language test in either Swedish, Danish, English, Norwegian, or German.
Latest rules on 1 June 2019: There is No condition regarding language ability.
Educational Qualification
Current rules: Internship needs to supplement the educational program of present education.
Latest rules on 1 Jun 2019: Internship needs to supplement the educational program of a present or finished education.
Duration of the Internship
Current rules: Internship Permit in Denmark can be announced for up to 12 months.
Latest rules on 1 Jun 2019: Internship Permit in Denmark can be announced for up to 18 months.
The internship place still has to be accepted to host interns, and the internship has to be in connection with the present or finished education of the intern.
Also, it is still a provision that salary and employment terms correspond to present Danish collective bargaining contracts for interns.
Appeals presented after 1 Jun 2019 will be treated as per the new rules. Also, pending appeals submitted prior to this date will be processed as per new rules. Interns appealing for the entire 18 months period have to state this in the application and add a valid employment agreement for the full period.
Interns who previously have shorter permits and want to prolong such permits up to the 18 months have to present applications for the extension. Request for an extension can at the earliest be provided three months prior to the closing of the existing permit.
