Denmark’s Education Ministry is responsible for the language courses and now it is also in charge of designing the New Multiple Choice Citizenship Test. After the test is devised by the Education Ministry, the Justice Ministry will approve the language level and the difficulty of the questions.
The test will be conducted in Danish and the applicants will have 45 minutes to answer 30 questions. This is ten questions lesser than the current test. Applicants will have to answer a minimum of 22 questions correctly in order to pass. Just as before, the applicants will be provided with a course pack by the Education Ministry so that they can prepare themselves prior to the test.
Implementing and developing the new and improved Citizenship Test will cost the state 1.3 Million kroner and to participate in the test, the applicants need to pay a fee of around 700 kroner.
The Citizenship Test is being re-designed because the present citizenship exam has been criticized for being so difficult that even the Danish people have trouble passing it.
