The US Department of Labor is urging the US government to raise its attempts to attract overseas talent by providing Green Cards to foreign students, who have successfully pursued their graduation courses in the educational institutions at US.
US Department of Labor was founded in 1913 to encourage and improve the well-being of the job seekers, retirees of the United States and wage earners.
Many students from foreign countries come to US for studies every year and have to leave to their home countries after the completion of the studies as the US immigration laws do not authorize them to stay back, enabling them to use their education and skills in some other country .This can be termed as reverse brain drain, which can be brought to an end by implementing the measure of providing Green Cards to foreign graduates of the US universities.
Department of Labor has initiated this proposal, subsequent to the raised criticism against the thought of raising immigration for highly skilled workers. A latest report has revealed that H-1B and L-1 visas are used by IT and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) firms as a means of obtaining unworthy labor from overseas countries.
Commonwealth of Independent States (CIC) has released a report, which showed that the graduates from STEM fields are twice in number compared to the available jobs under this field. Moreover, the salaries under the STEM related jobs have stayed stagnant, showing an increase of the average wages by less than 1% between 2000 and 2012.
