Digital Skill Crisis In The UK Needs To Stop
27 Jun 2016
Two tier visa needs to be sacked for the Science and Technology Committee in the UK. The restriction of getting some employees based on tier two visas is very less, and it is creating a crisis for Digital Skills in SME’s(small and medium sized enterprises).
Hiring from EU is going to be very difficult so the restriction on hiring people outside EU should be lessened which will make SME’s look for people outside the EU. UK immigrations has acknowledged the UK’s decision to leave European but at the same time, they are expecting tier two visa to get revised and fill the digital crisis gap as soon as possible for the SME’s.
UK Immigrations has enlisted some of the jobs in for the SME’s in the field of IT. These jobs are; IT product managers, systems engineers, data scientists, and cyber security specialists. But due to the restriction on some employees to be hired is not helping SME’s to meet the requirement.
The UK leads Europe on tech, but we need to take concerted action to avoid falling behind. The government deserves credit for steps taken so far, but it needs to go much further and faster. We need action on Tier 2 visas, vocational training and putting digital skills at the heart of modern apprenticeships."- Nicola Blackwood, the STC's chairwoman
