The US Government has taken a decision to waive the personal interview requirement for renewing the visa for renewing the B1/B2 business tourism, D crew member and C transit. The main purpose behind this move is to encourage Indians to travel to US.
This decision to ease the rules for full-validity visas applies to similar categories as the earlier visas and similar to the ones done before the expiry of the visa or within the limit of 48 hours. It is hoped that this move will benefit thousands of Indian applicants and will provide sufficient time to take care of applicants who are applying for the first time.
Discussions will be held to this effect at ministerial level and visa policy and other consular matters will also be discussed by the Indian Foreign Ministry. Concern will also be expressed over the increasing number of refusals of visas.
Incidentally, in 2011, the US consular offices in India had successfully managed to process over 670,000 applications, which is an increase of 11% above the previous year. With this policy decision move it is hoped that the visa applications will be processed quickly.
The US commerce department has set up an Indian chapter Visit USA Committee that comprises of major travel companies.
