Currently, Britons traveling to the European Member States does not require a valid visa. Once after the complete separation of the United Kingdom from the European Union, all the Britons will have to apply for a visa to enter the United Kingdom.
The executive body of the European Union has been debating for a visa requirement for Britons. A visa waiver is also being considered for the United Kingdom, which is not part of the Schengen agreement. Schengen Zone is the boundary-free travel agreement between the 26 nations of the European Union.
After the recent terror attacks in Belgium and France, The European Commission (EC) has planned to draft legislation for the EU travel information and authorization system (Etias). For the protection of the whole continent, this would be released later this year.
Speaking on the visa policies, the European Union’s Law Professor Steve Peers said that he hopes the electronic visa waiver plans will work. But he is not aware of the rules.
He said, 'It's going to annoy a lot of people,' 'We can ask for full free movement, but any arrangement is going to have to be reciprocal, so you have to ask what Nigel Farage and the others will accept.'
Camino Mortera-Martinez, a research fellow specializing in justice and home affairs at the Centre for European Reform, said: 'In theory UK citizens, as third-country nationals, would certainly be subject to the obligations (of such a scheme),' adding: 'This will have to be part of the Brexit talks. It will all have to be negotiated.'
