EU Plans To Check The Blue Card System

03 Jun 2016

EU-Nations-to-Attract-Highly-Skilled-Professionals

The European Union is very keen on checking the Blue Card System. This common card is issued by the European Union to attract skilled professionals into the 25 European Union countries. The working population in the European Union may decline further in the upcoming years.

The European job market is struggling to find skilled professionals. Aging population and low birth rate may lead to long-term economic and demographic imbalances in European nations especially the German society.

Around 13000 Blue cards were issued in 2013 and Germany was ahead in granting visas. The highest proportion was taken by the top economies of Europe. The rest of the European countries were not successful in attracting professionals due to high salary requirement.

Germany tactfully decreased the salary requirement and used the initiative effectively to attract highly skilled professionals. While the European Union is instrumental in framing the policies to welcome skilled professionals, Germany, France and Spain are the countries who used them impeccably to integrate the immigrants with the labor market needs.

Now, the European Union is planning to revamp the system as immigration is imperative for the economic progress of all the European countries.

The migrant population in the EU countries will increase many folds in the next few decades. In order to streamline immigration, the EU is planning to consult industrial bodies and education experts to introduce an industry-based immigration system.

A Point Based System that Contains Expression of Interest Can Enable EU Countries to Choose Potential Immigrants

The Canada Express Entry Scheme, Australia’s point-based systems are effective immigration systems that check the immigrant’s ability to adapt to the conditions of the respective countries.

The system must contain the expression of interest functions based on the labor market requirements and annual immigration plan of the country.

The European Union is considering a similar kind of the system. We may soon expect great changes from the EU as it is actively in talks with its member states to bring a huge change in its immigration policies.
