The Indian authorities are contemplating on streamlining the documentation process to make sure that workers who are traveling to the Gulf countries do not face exploitation. Most of the workers who travel to the Gulf countries are blue collar workers.
Many of these blue collar workers get cheated in the Gulf countries on account of unscrupulous elements who subject them to exploitation. Also, although these workers come here legally, they tend to overstay despite their documents having been expired. Even in recent times, many Indian workers come to the Gulf without having a proper visa.
The Indian authorities are of the view that to stop such malpractices is to cancel the licenses of these illegally operating agents and also arrest them in case this practice continues.
A fund has also been created to begin bodies such as ICWC( Indian Community Welfare Community) and the Overseas Indian Ministry’s allocation has been enhanced from Rs. 65 crores to about Rs.110 crores in the earlier budget.
Apart from such measures, the Indian authorities are also quite closely monitoring the issue of non-payment of insurance claim to the workers who have preferred to opt for “compulsory Pravasi Yojana insurance scheme.
