Canada’s minister in charge of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Hon. Steven Blaney and its minister for Citizenship and Immigration, Hon. Chris Alexander, on 28th April, 2014, Sunday, welcomed immigration personnel and officers from four countries, for a 4-day meeting. These countries are United States, Australia, United Kingdom, and New Zealand.
These aforesaid countries have been partners and allies for a long time and share a number of common interests, concerns and issues. Thus, some of these common interests, concerns and issues include handling and tackling transnational crime, terrorism threats, irregular migration and immigration fraud all which these nations’ representatives will discuss at this conference called as the FCC (Five Country Conference). These nations would therefore like to jointly face and tackle these issues while easing legitimate and legal travel for genuine travelers, all of which would directly and indirectly be of help and aid to their nations’ citizens.
One very important and specific goal of the conference is to reduce any inconveniences to those who are travelling legitimately, and at the same time ensure the security of the borders from those who represent a risk to the safety of others and disruption of peace.
The FCC (Five Country Conference) seeks to improve and ensure the security, efficiency and integrity of immigration as also provide services at the borders to enhance client services. Another important measure is about encouraging the member/participating countries to utilize hi-tech tools such as finger prints and digital photographs. And, one other measure is about sharing strategic information about travelers to ensure that legitimate travelers are not hassled while ensuring that those who represent a risk are kept outside of the borders. Canada is also a key and keen supporter of the ‘Beyond the Border’ action plan, which was propounded by President Barack Obama.
