According to a study conducted by the Bertelsmann Foundation, immigrant investors and entrepreneurs had employed approx 1.3 million people in Germany, during the year 2014 The study revealed that there has been an increase in jobs by 36 percent as compared to the previous decade.
In 2005, the number of employment opportunities generated by immigrants was approx 947,000. During this period, the increase in the number of immigrants was only 9 percent. According to the data received from ‘Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation’, Germany stands second in the list of immigrants.
As per the study, the immigrant businesses include a diverse range of activities — with only 28 percent of business owners in retail and restaurant segment.
Aart de Geus, chairman of the Bertelsmann Foundation, stated that "We show with our study that people with a migrant background in Germany do not take away jobs from anyone — quite the opposite."
