Training opportunities will be provided to young researchers to help them in the transition of becoming productive employees from trainees in the Canadian workforce. The Minister of State (Science and Technology), Honourable Greg Rickford, was at McGill University to announce about the funding for new training initiatives in diverse areas of research including climate change in the Arctic, wireless technology, genomics and clean combustion engines.
Rickford said that the Government will continue to support research that brings together industrial and academic partners as the Government recognizes the long-lasting returns that can be realized when academic research is interspersed with private sector. He also said that the Canadian Government remains committed to investing in the future generation of innovators, whose work will keep Canada competitive on the global stage and boost the economy through partnerships with the private sector.
Over the next six years, the government will invest more than $24 million in 15 initiatives through the CREATE (Collaborative Research and Training Experience) initiative of NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) to help engineering and science graduates add valuable job skills necessary in Canada’s labor market, to their academic achievements. Teams of Canadian university researchers will lead funded networks in helping students develop project management, entrepreneurship, leadership and communication skills.
