Global Students With Online Cources Now Eligible For Canadian PGWP

Global students beginning their Canadian study program in the following weeks will not be punished for online coursework if they finally apply for a Canadian Post Graduation Work Permit (P.G.W.P).

The PGWP permits global students to work in Canada for a maximum of three years. It is a way to gain work experience in Canada, which is extremely valued in economic immigration classes that drive to Canada PR.

Government of Canada research reveals that those with work experience in Canada prior to becoming permanent residents manage to integrate immediately into the labor market. As such, plenty of Canada’s higher than 80 economic immigration classes reward applicants who have work experience in Canada with additional points or are provided specifically for global students.

Under typical circumstances, foreign students need to have continuously studied a full-time course in Canada that is a minimum of 8 months long to be eligible for this PG work permit. Studying online could furnish an appellant unfit for a PGWP.

Canadian Government Latest Reform

This temporary change is yet an extra step taken by Canada to make its policies of immigration more flexible and to escape from interruptions for the immigration plans of clients during a time in which it is attempting to contain the coronavirus spread.

Given that several courses were required to move online following with coronavirus preventive measures, Refugees Immigration, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is enabling foreign students registered in these courses to be qualified for a PGWP.

This also comprises students who have a Canadian study permit, or who were allowed for a program beginning in May or June 2020, but who are not able to travel to Canada due to travel restrictions. Foreign students in this condition can start their classes while outside Canada and may finish up to 50 percent of their program while overseas if they cannot move to Canada sooner.

Foreign students who were allowed for a study permit after 18 March 2020 are presently not excluded from the Canadian travel ban, which is estimated to be in place till June 30.

IRCC’s temporary reformation will be welcomed by several global students who want to ultimately transition to Canada PR. In 2018, 25% of the approximately 90,000 individuals who got an invitation to apply below the Federal Express Entry were previous international students.
