The popular belief that graduating from top universities alone provides the best job opportunities in the UK is being disproved by a new research, which states that employers are indeed looking beyond Cambridge and/or Oxford for the brightest graduates.
High Fliers carried out a research in December 2013, which found that the top 100 public and private employers in the United Kingdom targeted more students from the universities of Manchester or Nottingham than they did from either Oxford or Cambridge.
The Times' Good University Guide has placed Manchester and Nottingham at 25th and 24th places among the best universities in the UK respectively, whereas Oxford and Cambridge ranked the highest, at 2nd and 1st respectively.
The registrar at Nottingham, Dr Paul Greatrix said that this is wonderful news for their alumni and students as it validates that the University of Nottingham is producing the global graduates that employers are seeking.
It demonstrates the continuing investment of Nottingham in student experience, and their focus on providing the best possible student support as they get ready for a challenging job market. Dr Greatrix added that it is also a proof of the excellent work of Nottingham’s and professional services and academic staff, and the caliber of Nottingham students.
From the career service section of Machester, Tammy Goldfield added that it is obviously very pleasing that their students are largely targeted by leading preeminent recruiters, and it is encouraged by the continuing recovery of the graduate jobs market.
Goldfield said that the previous academic year, Manchester saw a rise of 7% in advertised vacancies and employers completely booked their recruitment fairs.
