How India Reacts To Javed Remarks -Leave UK Once Complete Study

The British govt. immigration policy for the foreign students has been criticized by varied educationists which include Indian born Nobel Prize winner Ventaraman Ramakrishnan . In a recent London Conference, Sir Leszek Borrvsiewicz, Vice chancellor for Cambridge university, who is of polish descent, said, the UK visa regime is one of the biggest threats to UK’s higher education system. He also referred about the fall in the number of Pakistani as well as Indian applicants for the Tier -4 students visa, stating that between 2011 and 2012 applications to UK universities by Indian as well as Pakistani student fell nearing to 38 and 62%  respectively.

Indian students are second only to China amongst the Non-EU overseas students in higher education in UK. Rising tuition fees as well as unfriendly visa system has seen the number of drop.

Between the year 2012 to 2013 and 2013 to 2014, student numbers from India have fallen from 18525 to 16480. But during the same period the Chinese students’ number  has risen from 69970 to 74.20.

 By revoking the post study work visa it would be major deterrent for Indian students. Unlike their Chinese counterparts who come to UK on Chinese Government scholarships,  whereas Indian students must take substantial loans to study in UK.

In an interview with BBC radio 4 on Friday, Business Secretary  Sajid Javid has stated that he would like to break the link between study as well as settlement of overseas students.
