How to make South Africa positive, proactive and productive in 2013? This is the question before the nation as it forgets the year of 2012 as one best forgotten. There were mutual recriminations among the leaders, both of the business and political side. So far the approach has been one of being reactive rather than proactive in this fast paced world.
It has been found necessary to create an environment conducive to productivity. Like charity, this exposure should begin in the school. And there are misgivings all round over the math and science standards in schools.
Some of the challenges faced by business leaders in the competitive open market have much to do with political environment, human resources legislation, global competitiveness, anti-corruption, diversity and equality, integrated reporting, environmental issues, corporate governance and best practice.
While well-meaning business leaders think on these lines, the big business in general believes it's none of their business. That is where apparently the problem lies in the country. There is little or no sign of social responsibility. Poor strategies and reactive approaches to business have resulted in long-term instability, increased costs and the risk of not retaining organizational integrity.
The vision is for a prosperous nation within which all of our children can have a fighting chance of success.
