Service centers over Canada are presently open to take biometrics from international citizens applying to live in the country. Before 3 December 2019, only immigration applicants applying from Canada outside had to provide their fingerprints & photo.
Unless they are excluded, biometrics is now needed for those who are applying from inside Canada for:
Biometrics need to be provided if the application is for extension of a visa or permit in Canada and the appellant does not have biometrics also still valid. You can also check the status of Biometrics in the official website of Canada Immigration.
The 58 designated service centers list in Canada is accessible on Refugees, Immigration, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)’s website.
In a report, Canadian new Minister for Refugees, Immigration, and Citizenship, Marco Mendicino, told that the extended biometrics program will improve the performance and integrity of the Canadian immigration system.
Fingerprints & photo collection are identified as one of the most authentic ways to recognize individuals and are used by higher than 70 nations globally, he said.
Canada Immigration has collected biometrics of the immigrant nationals who are applying for either temporary or permanent residence since 31 December 2018.
I.R.C.C gives an online tool where immigrants need to fill out a questionnaire to decide whether they need to give biometrics or not for their application. Those within the age of 14 and 79 years old must give fingerprints and photos for all PR applications in the economic class, family class, and refugee class.
Current citizens and permanent residents of Canada do not require to give their biometrics.
Those who need to give biometrics require to book an appointment in advance to give their fingerprints and also their photos. Then they will receive a bio-metric instruction letter (B.I.L), which will give the biometric collection service points list to choose from.
It is mandatory to bring the B.I.L to the service point in person in less than 30 days for the biometrics to be processed. Appellants, it includes those in Canada who will be traveling outside the nation, can also provide their biometrics at a visa application center (VAC) in any nation that they are lawfully permitted to enter.
