The Scottish National Party (SNP) has promised that the reintroduction of post study work visas and the ease of restrictions on visa rules will be considered by an independent Scotland.
The post-study work visa route will permit the students of non European Union (EU) countries to reside in UK for a two year period and they can search for job after completion of their graduation.
The minister of SNP for international development and external affairs, Humza Yousaf, said that under immigration system of UK, the overseas students are facing problems to move to Scotland and to the rest part of UK for study purpose. He added that after the post-study work visa route’s closure Scotland observed less than 0.7% enrollment of non-EU students when compared to previous year.
He added that an independent Scotland would have its own immigration system and it would re-introduce post study work visas to entice overseas students to its colleges and institutions leading to economic development.
Due to the Conservatives’ pledge to minimize net migration to the tens of thousands by 2015, the post-study work visa route was shut down in 2012.
Since April 2012, the number of students from India, Pakistan and Nigeria entering several higher educational institutions in Scotland as students of first year has lessened by 58%, 38% and 22% respectively, according to the statistics.
