India And Canada Should Work Together For Enhanced Trade Relations

Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper said that the relationship between Canada and India was thriving than ever before and both nations should work mutually to remove barriers delaying trade and investment.

In relation to the immigration reforms the prime minister said that the approval rate of the Indian applicants for permanent residency is over 85%. Besides, the applicants need not wait for four to six years additionally for the residency as the Canadian government has brought down the processing time for the new applications down to one year, he added.

Canadian government has issued over 14,000 student visas to Indians in 2013, enabling more number of Indian students to get enrolled in the universities of the country.

Harper said that the CAN+ has approval rate of 95 percent allowing additional number of Indians to travel to Canada as tourists or to perform business activities.

At present India is the Canada’s highest source for immigrants .The nation’s Indo-Canadian community, which is strong and extending to grow, constitutes over 1.2 million, the prime minister added.
