According to an official report, India constituted more than 1/3rd of the temporary workers in US in 2012. This figure is regarded as the highest in number as compared to that of H1Bs obtained by other countries’ nationals to the US.
Among 1.87 million residents with non-immigrant status in US in 2012, India constituted a maximum number of 430,000 residents, according to the latest report.
The report also said that among 1.9 million residents with non-immigrant status in US, the categories that accounted for a large number were students, who accounted for 720,000 or 38% and the temporary workers, who have accounted for 840,000 or 45%,
In addition, the report has stated that India has accounted for 45% among the temporary workers, and the age of these workers was between 25 and 34 years.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, around 50% of the residents with non-immigrant status were from Asian countries, including India which accounted for 23% followed by China, South Korea and Japan accounting for 11%, 8% and 5% respectively.
Temporary workers accounted for a large number of non- immigrants from India that accounted for 74%, which is regarded as the second largest in number, while Mexico accounted for 78% and stood at the top.
