Some US senators claimed that Indian workers moving to US are taking jobs away from Americans, like programmers in tech and software firms. However, Chamber of Commerce has defended this stating that less than half of skilled US work visas. The new higher fees for US work visas have also been a part of the discussion.
Also, the Chamber pointed out that these visas are a major source of scholarship money, which in turn helps to train Americans and create new jobs. This is because each visa has a training and scholarship fee levied on it.
The Chamber also mentioned that in the last financial year, Indian technology firms used just 4,809 H-1B visas. This accounts for just 0.003 per cent of the US labour force. In addition, Indian IT firms used just 6 per cent of the total H-1B visas available, which were 65,000 last year.
The Corporate American credit union has also spoken out against the anti-outsourcing sentiment that has emerged in the senate over the past weeks.
