Indian government considers the liberalized visa regime that will be given the tourists with the permission of multiple entries and to be able to stay in for 3 months. With all the stakeholders, Union Home Ministry held a discussion for working out the modalities which will be extended for ‘visa on arrival’. Medical tourism is to be boosted by the government and it has already asked the officials to come up with a proposal that will improve the footfall.
Currently the foreigners are granted visa on arrival fir 30 days which they can apply in advance of at least a four days within 30 days. A senior official attended the meeting and said, “The government plans to extend the duration from the current 1 month to 60-90 days.”
The officials said that, “Other than promoting tourism, we also aim to expedite the grant of visa in other sectors like services and employment while ensuring that the security features are not compromised." Home mister has also planned the review on certain countries in ‘rogue’ category which will be referred as PRC (As Prior Referral Category)
There is also a plan to keep the SAARC nations student Visa on hold, so that students can avail one year of multiple entries entry travel document. Another official "We are also considering to waive the 60-day cooling off period for second visit by visitors from SAARC countries.”
Commerce ministry took up the proposal to the Prime Minister’s office for making the visa rules more liberalized for the easy movement of professionals in order to facilitate with an aim of boosting the program like ‘Make in India’. This included tourism, business visits, healthcare, and people wishing to come to the country to attend seminars and conferences. However, the proposal was shot down by the home ministry.
