The UK government has finally announced some changes on immigration which come as a breather after various stringent measures which have not been very popular in India. Allowing the Indian students to take up corporate internships after the completion of their degree, may help the UK regain ground as an international higher education destination.
Moreover, the rules have even been eased for graduates to take up skilled jobs. Switching to a skilled worker visa is easier for people who are on graduate entrepreneur visas. Without the sponsor having to complete a resident labor market test, they will be able to switch visas for a job with a 'new entrant' salary.

Cambridge University’s vice-chancellor, Leszek Borysiewicz, reckons that the latest announcement will help talented students to remain in the UK after their education. He said that the recent steps to allow students to take up corporate internships after the completion of their degree are being welcomed by both business leaders and academic community in the UK. Currently, enrolled at Cambridge are around 300 Indian students.
However, the UK government's previous decision to discontinue the post-study work visa may already have done considerable damage as an academic year has started for undergraduate international students.
Deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords, Navnit Dholakia said that students are seeking entry into other European countries as some of these concessions have come too late. He also said that rebuilding the confidence of students in British immigration policies will be a slow process. Mr. Dholakia’s party is a coalition partner in the UK government.
The concessions for international students are seen as a measure to make the UK an attractive option in the advent of the falling numbers.
