Patrick Suckling, the Australian High Commissioner to India, announced on 19th Dec that 42 Indian researchers and students have won Endeavour fellowships or scholarships to study in Australia.
In an emailed statement, Mr. Suckling congratulated all 42 recipients who will be a part of the next era of Indian academic leaders, saying that they have achieved these awards against immensely fierce global competition.
Mr. Suckling said he is pleased that the recipients will have the opportunity to develop strong research and personal networks with Australia. He added that he is confident these links will continue last even after the scholars’ return to India, which in turn, will reinforce the stable and lasting bilateral relationship between India and Australia.
The Government of Australia offers scholarships called ‘Australia Awards’, every year, to high achieving professionals, researchers and students from all over the world to study in the world-class education institutions of Australia or take part in Australia’s professional development program. The scholarships are merit-based and globally-competitive.
A total of 476 Endeavour Scholarships were offered this year to overseas students and 150 to Australians to take part in research and study outside their home country.
The recipients will take part in research or study at postdoctoral, postgraduate, or vocational level or partake in professional development at a few of the most prestigious Universities in Australia in fields that include environment, science, agriculture, engineering, health, hospitality, education, business, law, creative arts, regional stability and governance.
