Two industry bodies in Singapore's fast-growing logistics sector are linking up to offer hands-on training programmes to logistics professionals, and fill what they say is a gap in the industry.
Although universities and polytechnics already offer courses such as supply chain management, the two bodies say this academic education is not enough. Supply Chain Asia and the Singapore Shippers' Academy believe that there is a need for more practical training in the logistics sector.
On Wednesday, they signed an agreement to collaborate and run a training centre at StarHub Centre on Cuppage Road. They also launched certification and training programmes and will eventually run Masters and PhD programmes.
The courses will be taught by industry veterans and logistics specialists with first hand practical knowledge. This is to equip students with the necessary practical skills and knowledge to perform at work as soon as they have completed the courses.
