Australian universities have become more involved in global programme which would help in promoting more opportunities for students to take part in international study and research.
Universities Australia has signed an agreement with Canadian organization Mitacs, which does allow Australian undergraduate students to participate in an elite research internship program in Canada for the 1st time.
The Mitacs Global Research internship(GRI) is a competitive initiative already available to the undergraduate students belonging to India, China, Brazil, Mexico, Vietnam, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.
This Program is highly sought after, it attract’s several thousands of applications each year. The universities Australia agreement would add Australia to the list of Miltacs Partner nations.
Beginning from June to September each year, we find top ranked Australian applicants would participate in 12 week research internship under the supervision of the Canadian university faculty member. The students would be provided with professional skills training and would gain valuable knowledge about Canadian industry and innovation. The interns interested in returning to Canada for graduate studies would be eligible for a Global link graduate fellowship.
Belinda Robinson, Universities Australia Chief Executive has added that, by signing the 1st ever Australia-Canada undergraduate research partnership and 9 Australian universities would be taking part in 2015- 16.
Robinson added that,the successful candidates are likely to be those interested in pursuing a career in research & building those long lasting connections between Canada and Australia.
As per Aljandro Adem Mitacs,the chief Executive officer and Scientific director, the agreement with the Universities Australia would help in providing new opportunities for the Canadian faculty and universities, it would offer benefit to students from the international perspectives.
The Australian universities have agreed to support one or more students in the pilot programme are of university of Sydney, Queensland University of Technology, Monash University, the University of Wollongon, James Cook University, the University of Western Australia, The university of Queensland, Macquarie University and the University of Tasmania.
