Due to increase in the number of immigrants entering into the UK, government is categorically reviewing whether foreign students should be excluded from net migration figures. The government has committed to bring down the immigration number to 100,000 as the number of immigrants in 2015 was the second highest number with 330,000 as estimated by National Statistics estimate.
As it was earlier informed by the prime minister’s spokes person, highly skilled workers and International students will be exempted from the review. However the migration numbers are disturbing the UK government and forcing them to take the International students into consideration for review. Post the statement by the spokesman, Treasury Select Committee Chancellor Philip Hammond told the MP’s, “When the public tells us loudly and clearly that they have a problem with the levels of migration, it is clear to me that they are not talking about computer programmers, brain surgeons, bankers, senior managers, possibly students. But they are talking about people competing for entry level jobs with people in the UK who, perhaps, have a level of skills that means they only have access to those kinds of jobs.”
To the Chancellor’s statement the prime minister’s spokes person responded, “The issue of migrant numbers that will come into the country, be it student or otherwise, is an issue that will have to be very closely looked at by the government as we set about establishing a new system.”
