IPG (International Post-Graduate) Is A Permanent Fixture In BCs PNP

According to the announcement by British Columbia’s PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) that its pilot project IPG (International Post-Graduate) will become a permanent fixture.

Created in 2010, the IPG pilot project was scheduled to run for a trial of 3 years. The main intention of the program was to attract and retain foreign graduates who earned masters of doctoral degrees in the applied, health or natural sciences from an institute in British Columbia.

After surveying 462 nominees in a recent evaluation of the program by British Columbia PNP, it was determined that the project has a positive impact on the province’s labor market and other factors. The statistics drawn from the findings are:

• 67% of the nominees are employed

• 24% are pursuing advanced studies (mostly master's graduates enrolled in a PhD)

• 88% of the employed nominees work in an occupation directly related to their degree

• The average income was $45,645 in 2012

• 93% of IPG nominees continue to live in BC

• Applicants must have satisfied the requirements for an eligible masters or PhD degree from a recognized British Columbian Institution.

• An application must be made within 2 years of the date shown on the Institute's final official transcript.

• Individuals who completed their studies more than 6 months before applying are expected to have attained a valid temporary work permit.

The British Columbia PNP also engages in a separate International Graduates category for individuals who have been offered full-time, permanent employment in the province.
