According to Central Statistics Office Ireland’s recent report, immigration into the country appears to be on the rise.
The report states that there was a 6% rise in the number of immigrants that arrived in Ireland compared to the same 12 month period last year.
According to the latest figures, just under 56,000 people moved to Ireland between April 2012 to April 2013.
The report also revealed that 89,000 left Ireland to live overseas. Figures show that more than 57% of the people who emigrated between April 2012 and April 2013 were Irish citizens.
Among the 55,900 people arriving in Ireland, 15,700 were Irish people returning to the country while 4,900 arrivals were from the UK.
Around 10,900 new arrivals came from eastern Europe while a further 7,400 came from western Europe, alongside arrivals from Malta and Cyprus.
From various other parts of the world came 17,000 new immigrants to Ireland.
Most of the immigrants arriving in Ireland are in their twenties; with approximately 22,000 new arrivals being under 24. Aged between 25 and 44 are around 29,000 of those who entered Ireland.
