Kenny Announces 83 Jobs Under Connect Ireland Scheme

The Government of Ireland announced the creation of 83 jobs through the State-funded scheme – ‘Connect Ireland’. In this scheme, a finder’s fee is given to individuals for bringing in international investment that may not have otherwise contemplated setting up shop in Ireland.

Sound & Sea Technologies, a Washington State-based ocean and marine engineering company with a European headquarters in Ringaskiddy, Co Cork created some 55 jobs.

Improv Asylum Innovation, a Boston theatre group that applies techniques of improvisational comedy into business training events has created 12 jobs by setting up a new centre in Dublin.

Technology consulting

Strategic Marketing Innovations, Inc (SMI), a privately owned company specializing in government relations and technology consulting, will create up to 10 jobs in Dublin over the next year as it spreads its operations to Ireland.

Finally, the Bayne Law Group, a New Jersey-based legal consultancy, through the affiliated company Bayne International Limited will create 6 new jobs in Cork.

Announcing the jobs at the Global Irish Economic Forum, Taoiseach Enda Kenny, said some 11,800 ‘connectors’ registered with Connect Ireland.

Mr Kenney said that there are discussions going with 250 companies at the moment and they all might not locate in Ireland, but a critical number of them may do so.

Double revenues

Sound & Sea Technologies’ Chief Executive, Dallas Meggitt said the company had set a target to double its revenues in the next few years. He said that Europe is critical to their strategy and added that they are open for business. Based at Sound & Sea Europe will be around 20 of the company’s jobs, while 35 more will be at Marine Micropile Technology.

Individuals who connect expanding companies with Connect Ireland receive at least €1,500 for every job that is created in Ireland as an outcome of the move.
