German Universities are becoming more and more accessible to English-speaking students. There are opportunities to study in the Land of Philosophers and Thinkers without having strong German skills when you arrive.
For many Master's programs in Germany, knowing German is no longer a prerequisite - especially for those programs that are internationally oriented. Foreign students can learn German during the course of their studies. Available programs range from University of Mainz’s Accounting and Controlling to Technical University Cottbus’ World Heritage Studies.
These programs are offered in modules, and many include an international component. Along with the usual tests and other assignments that must be passed, a period abroad is often a requirement. Germany's transition to the Bachelor and Master system makes degrees earned here easier to compare internationally, making the study abroad programs easier to facilitate.
Connections to the job market
Fostering connections with the job market before the graduation is the aim of most of the Bachelor's and Master's programs in Germany. Often possible employers are actively included in developing the programs helping students in establishing contact with companies during the course of their studies.
Many universities also offer programs with a European focus. Students participating in this kind of program must complete at least two semesters at a partner university in another European country. Graduates of such programs may receive a dual degree.
Exchange student in Germany
There are many partnerships that exist between German and other universities abroad through which foreign students are also welcome to study in Germany for a semester or two. Contracts between universities ensure that a lively exchange of teachers, researchers and students takes place each year and credit earned at another institution will be recognized.
Periods of study in Germany are supported by exchange programs and scholarship. They include the EU educational program ERASMUS, which is administered by the German Academic Exchange Service (known in German as the DAAD).
